Fantasy Football Rules

The Basics

  1. Entry – Entrance fee is $35.00** per team. Players can own a maximum of two teams.

  2. Teams – Each team will consist of up to 12 players and one defense, chosen from the current play list.

    Teams will consist of:
    2 QBs (1 each from boxes A & B)
    3 RBs (1 each from boxes C, D, & E)
1 specialty RB (from box F)
    3 WRs (1 each from boxes G, H, & I)
    1 TE (from box J)
    1 K (from box K)
1 team defense (from box L)
1 wild-card player (any QB, RB, WR, TE, K or DEF of your choice not listed)
  • Exceptions to this configuration will be allowed for those who would prefer 2 RBs from Box C or 2 WRs from Box G. If such an option is chosen, no players will be taken from boxes D & E or boxes H & I respectively.

Players on a team (Moves/injuries/etc.)

  1. Injuries – Any QB or K injured prior to a start will automatically be replaced that week by his backup. I.E. – If Derek Carr is injured and won’t start that week, Jamies Winston automatically becomes a listed QB in that box and thus can’t be used as a write-in or wildcard choice that week.

Injured RBs, WRs and TEs will not be automatically replaced.

NOTE: If a QB or K starts a game and then gets injured, you DO NOT get the stats of the backup QB or K who enters the game.

  2. Changing players – After choosing a team in the first week, owners may make changes, or trades for different players each week. There is no limit on the number of changes a team can make each week, but each team has only 50 free changes for the season.

*** Additional changes will cost owners .50 per move. ***

You may change players for NFL bye weeks, but those moves count as trades.
Write-ins also count against the trade limit.
Changing wildcard players doesn’t count against your trade total.

  1. Write-ins – Every box except Box F will allow for teams to choose a write-in candidate instead of the players listed. If you choose a write-in, you will earn extra points in advance for making that selection, (extra points vary by box, refer to list for specific values.)
If a write-in player earns or ties the highest score in the box from among the other players in play that week, he will earn bonus points. (Bonus points vary from box to box, see list for specific values.)
*** NOTE: The write-in player must win or tie outright based only on his stats for the week. The extra points earned in advance DO NOT COUNT toward the bonus points.

If a write-in player scores higher than anyone else in play that week, including all listed players, wildcards or other write-ins, that player’s team will earn bonus points which will be added to that team’s score for the week.

Overall bonus points for the first quarter of the season will be worth 50 pts.

For Weeks 5-16 the bonus will be worth 100 pts.
The bonus will revert to 50 pts. for Weeks 17 & 18.

IF A WRITE-IN OR WILDCARD TIES WITH A LISTED PLAYER FOR THE HIGHEST SCORE, NO WILDCARD BONUS IS EARNED.

  2. Wildcard players – In addition to picking up to 11 players and a defense from the current play list, each team must pick a wildcard player which can be any QB, RB, WR, TE, K or DEF not listed in any box on the sheet.
A wild card player will not figure into a team’s weekly total except under two conditions:

    A. The wildcard player will be used as a tie-breaker if two teams finish with identical totals for the week, but his value will not be added to the team’s score for that week.

    B. If a wildcard player ties for or scores a higher value than all of the other players on the team at the same position, the wild card player’s score will replace that of the lowest scoring player from that position for the week.

    EXAMPLE:
Suppose a team chooses Adams (Box G), D. Johnson (Box H) and Jeudy (Box I) at WR and uses Gallup as a wildcard. If the WRs score 35, 40 and 25 respectively and Gallup scores 42, he replaces Jeudy’s 25 and his value is used to calculate the teams overall total. Jeudy’s total is used for tie-breaker purposes only.

A wildcard player cannot also be used as a write-in or vice versa. No repeat players allowed.

*** NOTE – It is possible for a wildcard player to earn bonus points if he bumps another player from a given box and his value is equal to or higher than any other player in play from that box. He does not however qualify for extra points that would be given to a write-in selection.

*** A wildcard player can win the 50/100 pt. bonus mentioned above.

  3. In-play players – A player is considered “in-play” on any given week if one of the teams in our league has chosen him.

If a listed player doesn’t get selected by at least one team, he does not count as an active player in that box.
Write-in and wildcard players DO NOT have to outscore inactive players to win bonus points.

  4. Updated Player Lists – New player lists will go into effect three times during the season:
    Week 5
    Week 10 and
    Week 15.
I reserve the right to update the final play list in Week 18 to reflect injured players and/or players who are resting for postseason.

Updated play lists will reflect changes in player assignments due to performance, injury or suspensions in order to maintain a competitive balance in each box.

If a player currently owned by a team moves to a new box, the team owner will have to adjust his or her lineup, but the move(s) does not count as one of that team’s 50 trades for the season.

Schedule, deadlines and scoring

  1. Schedule – Teams will compete over a 18-week schedule, beginning Week 1. The winner will be the team with the highest overall total based on 15 weeks of play.
(The highest and two lowest weekly totals will not be counted in a team’s overall score.)

  2. Weekly trading deadline – All trades for the week must be emailed/called in by 10 a.m. Mountain Time (12 noon Eastern) Sunday. Exceptions to this rule will be made for:

    A. Last-minute injury report updates, but injury related changes must be made before the start of Sunday NFL action. (Before 11 a.m. MT, 1 p.m. ET.)
Injured players must be graded at questionable or worse to qualify as a valid injury change after the 10 a.m. deadline.

    B. Weeks when NFL games occur prior to Sunday (i.e. games scheduled on Thursdays or Saturdays) the deadline will be prior to kickoff of these contests.

C. As of 2012, the NFL has a Thursday night game every week of the season. You must remove Thursday night players from your previous week’s lineup prior to kickoff, or you will be stuck with those players for another week.

  1. Late Teams Penalty
    A. Teams received after the 10 a.m. (Mountain Time) deadline on Sunday will be subject to 25 points deducted from their weekly score.
    B. Teams received after 10:30 a.m. (Mountain Time) will lose 50 points.

  2. Scoring:
Note: See scoring page for complete details

    A. Quarterbacks – Besides all passing categories, QBs are also eligible for rushing points if they meet minimum criteria.

    B. Running backs – Earn points for both running and catching the football. Touchdown yardage points will be based on whether it was a rushing or receiving TD. Total yardage points for RBs is based on the sum of their rushing & receiving yards.

EXAMPLE: If Alvin Kamara rushes for 77 yds and catches another 32 yds., his total is 109 yards, rather than assigning points for each category separately.

    C. Receivers – Like RBs, they earn yardage for both catching and running the football. If a TD is scored on a reverse, the receiver will earn TD yardage points for a rushing TD. Any rushing yards will be added to their receiving yardage sum.

    D. Kickers – In addition to all kicking categories, kickers also are eligible for two-point conversion points if they throw or run the ball in after a TD. They are also eligible for all points if they score a TD off a busted play.

    E. Defense – Defenses are selected as a team unit. When calculating points yielded by the defense, the defense is only accountable for points scored while their unit is on the field. So if a fumble or interception is returned all the way back for a TD while the offensive unit is on the field, or if the offense gets tackled for a safety, those points do not count against the defensive unit. All kicks and punts returned for TDs will be counted as defensive TDs and not charged to the opposing team’s defense.

*** For the sake of simplicity, PATs and two-point conversions scored after a TD given up by the offense also will not be charged against the defensive unit. ***

Yards given up by the defense will be based on the sum of total passing yards added to the total rushing yards for the opposing team’s offense.

Any touchdowns scored by the defense, whether on a kickoff, punt or turnover return will receive additional points for the distance the play covered. See defensive/kick return TD yardage for details.

    F. Minimum Requirements – Quarterbacks, running backs, receivers and kickers must have a minimum number of attempts, carries or receptions to be eligible for certain scoring categories at their position.
Refer to scoring sheet for details.

    G. Wins/losses- In addition to all scoring categories listed above, each player and defense will earn/lose one point for an actual win or loss during real NFL action.

Results and prizes

  1. Results – Individual team results and updated league standings will be distributed via email each week after all NFL action for the week is complete.
  2. Prizes
Weekly: The team with the best score each week will win a $10 weekly prize if enough teams compete. (Need at least 20 teams. Number of winning positions and prize values will go up with higher enrollment.)
The weekly runner-up will receive $5.

Season: Prizes will be awarded to the five highest scoring teams for the season. Prize spots will be added for every group of five owners over 20.
