Denny Edges TroyA for Weekly Win

Collectively we got back to decent scores in Week 4, but bragging rights came down to two former league champions.

Dennis scored a 379 to hold off TroyA, and claim Week 4. Dennis’ team was led by Allen, Maye, Gibbs, Nacua, Pickens, and Egbuka.

TroyA fell seven points shy with a 372, thanks to a lineup featuring Fields, Robinson, Nacua, Wilson, Odunze, Shrader and the Texans D.

This is Dennis’ first win since the final two weeks of 2023, and TroyA‘s first pay day since Week 5 a year ago. Congrats to Dennis and TroyA on the strong showings in Week 4.

Michael’s Creative Lineup Delivers

I always get a little worried when we collectively bunch up on the same players.

So it is refreshing when we see an owner blaze a distinctive path with his lineup.

Michael‘s creativity was rewarded in Week 3, as he’s the only owner to top 300 points.
Michael scored a 314, thanks to a lineup featuring C. Williams, Maye, Cook, Walker, J. Williams, Odunze, Dicker and the Vikings D.

Runner up was former league champ Major, who put up 293 thanks to a lineup led by L. Jackson, D. Jones, Taylor, Walker, Williams, and Johnston.

This is Michael‘s first win since Week 1 of 2020, and Major‘s first pay day since Week 12 last season. Congrats to Michael and Major for their strong performance in Week 3.

Family Affair
Many of our owners share family ties with one another, including one family that has had three generations play in the league. Here are some of the current blood lines in the league:

Spouses:
David
 and Kerry
Kel & Karen (who opt to keep a united front by fielding one team)

Fathers/Sons/Brothers:
Jack/Jake
Tom/Trent/CraigW* (Tom’s dad Roger was a long-time owner in this league)

Cousins:
JohnK
 and David

It’s not often a defense leads all fantasy scorers, but the Vikings, led by Isiah Rodgers (pictured above), had two defensive TDs of 87 and 66 yards, exploiting Bengals miscues.,

Lowest Scoring Player: Michael Penix Jr. (-1)
The sophomore signal caller for the Falcons had a day to forget, including throwing a pick six in a shutout effort.

Housekeeping:
Thanks to all the owners who have already paid in. Much appreciated.

Eric Dominates Week 2

Week 2 ran late with the Monday night doubleheader, but Eric had the week wrapped up after Sunday’s action.

Eric outpaced the field with a 380, thanks to a lineup led by L. Jackson, Goff, Barkley, Kamara, Etienne, Chase, McBride, Aubrey and the Ravens D.

David followed up his strong 2024 season by taking the runner up spot in Week 2, with a 346, thanks to a roster featuring L. Jackson, Maye, Barkley, Hubbard, J. Williams, Chase, and Aubrey.

This is Eric’s first win since Week 9 of 2023, and David‘s first pay day since Week 17 of last season. Congrats to both on their strong Week 2 season.

Honorable mention to Tom (339) and rookie owner Christina (329) on their strong showings in Week 2.

Past League Champs
In 31 seasons, we have had 18 different owners crowned league champion. In 2025, we have eight former league champions playing, including
Andrew (2020),
CraigS (2001),
Dennis (1999/2008)
Kerry (2005),
Major (2016),
RandyH (1998/2017),
yours truly (2012/2021) and
TroyA, who has won the league a record 10 times. (2002/2009/2011/2013-2015/2018/2019/2022/2023).

Alas, our defending champ, Ravi, opted not to play this season.

The Ultimate Bridesmaid:
In addition to the league champions listed above, one owner deserves honorable mention for his amazing consistency, despite never winning it all.

Since joining the league in 2002. Eric has taken 8th once (2004), fifth two times  (’05 and ’20), fourth five times (’09, ’10, ’12, ’14, ’23), finished third three times (’11, ’15, ’21) and placed second a record eight times (’02, ’03, ’06, ’07, ’08, ’13, ’16, ’22).

He’s only finished out of the money three times (2017-2019). Pretty impressive.  And one of these seasons, I believe he will finally claim the ultimate prize.

CraigW Makes Victorious Return to League

Well, Week 1 opened our league with far more of a whimper, than a commanding statement. We averaged 242 points per team, and no one topped 300 points.

Having said that, it takes nothing away from CraigW, who returned to the league after a five-year hiatus, and scored a 277 to win the week. CraigW‘s team was led by L. Jackson, Barkley, Hubbard, Benson, Bowers, Aubrey and the Broncos D.

CraigS, a former league champion, opened with a 269, thanks to team featuring Hurts, D. Jones, Barkley, Kamara, Meyers, Bowers, Aubrey and the Broncos D.

Congrats to CraigW on his first weekly win since Week 8 of the 2015 campaign, and CraigS who kept rolling after winning the final week of the 2024 campaign.

I should also note that this has been an eventful summer for my nephew CraigW, as he and his lovely wife welcomed their first child last month.

Dubious Record:
I mentioned this was a low-scoring week by league standards. How low?
Well prior to this weekend, the lowest winning score in league history was TroyA‘s 281 in Week 11 of the 2015 campaign.

So TroyA, you no longer hold that record.

Fantasy Football Season is Almost Here

Hi All:

Happy Labor Day. Hope you are enjoying the last weekend of summer.

The NFL kicks off its season Thursday night with Dallas at Philadelphia.

That’s also the kickoff of our 2025 season.

League Entry Fee:

Thanks to all of you who have already sent payment.

$40 covers your Week 1 lineup and the first 50 trades.

I accept cash, check and Venmo.

My Venmo account is @John-Kowalewski-1

Scoring Change for Kickers:

For the 2025, I am revising the scoring for field goals based on length.

NFL kickers have gotten way too accurate, so in an effort to keep individual scores from being astronomical, I am revising downward how much long field goals are worth.

I haven’t updated these online yet, but here is the new scoring breakdown for FGs in 2025:

1. All made FGs are worth 3 points.

2. Field goals over 35 yards earn additional points, based on the following:

FGs 35 yds and under = 0 additional points

36-40 yd FGs = 2 points

41-45 yd FGs = 4 points

46-50 yd FGs = 6 points

51-55 yd FGs = 8 points

56-60 yd FGs = 10 points

61+ yd FGs = 15 points

I’m debating adding a FGs over 66 yards (which would set an NFL record) = 20 points, but that is not in the rules as of now.

The first Play List for 2025 is posted below and also on the Play List page.

Play list for Weeks 1-4

I’m traveling this weekend, so I hope I didn’t make any boneheaded mistakes with this list. I reserve the right to modify the play list in the event that a player is cut or goes down injured between now and their first game of the season.

Owners:

We have 31 owners back for the 2025 campaign. I’m still waiting to hear from a few owners, including our defending champ, so I’m hoping that number will grow to 35.

If you know of any friends or family who would like to play in 2025, please send them an invite, or have them contact me.

Good luck to all in 2025.

John K.
