Week 16 Gift Wrapped for RandyH

Whether it’s COVID, Christmas or just a late-season funk, some of the NFL’s biggest stars and fantasy football studs continue to under perform, and our lineups reflect it. In Week 16, two of our longest tenured owners RandyH (1996) and Tom (1995) avoided the minefields to have strong showings.

Lifelong Friends Finish First/Second in Week 12

Week 12 was a nightmare for fantasy football, unless you were a small handful of owners who avoided the trendy picks and pitfalls of the long holiday weekend.

Up until 15 seconds were left in Monday Night Football, Kel&Karen were going to win the week. Then Russell Wilson threw a last-minute touchdown and … Kel’s lifelong friend since elementary school, Brenda, edged them by one point.

Brenda was hoping for Wilson and Lockett to carry her to victory on Monday Night, with a 344, thanks to a roster led by Wilson, Taylor, Fournette, Gaskin, Dillon, Lockett, Thielen, Meyers, Gronkowski, Tucker.

That was just enough to edge Kel&Karen‘s 343, who had to settle for second place thanks to a lineup featuring Allen, Fournette, Dillon, Adams, Diggs, Renfrow, Andrews, and Tucker.

Honorable mention to Kim (317) and CarlP (301), the only other owners to eclipse the 300 mark in Week 12.

This is Brenda‘s first weekly win since Week 14 of the 2014 season. It’s Kel & Karen‘s first payday since Week 11 of 2019. Congrats to Brenda, Kel&Karen on their successful Week 12 showing.

Commissioner Pulls off Three-peat

Well now this is getting downright embarrassing. For the third time in five weeks, my lineup outscored the field to win the week. (Thank heavens I send out my picks every Sunday morning.)

My Week 10 team scored a 392, thanks to a lineup led by Mahomes, Taylor, Dar. Williams, Dillon, Kupp, Dio. Johnson, Kelce and Elliott.

Taking second was 2005 league champ Kerry, who posted a 385 thanks to a team featuring Mahomes, Taylor, Dar. Williams, Hill, Diggs, Kelce and Elliott.

Kerry‘s success deserves a footnote, as she sent in her team Saturday night, only to have second thoughts on Sunday morning, and emailed to say she was going to keep Mahomes and Hill after all. Good move Kerry.

This is Kerry‘s first pay day since Week 15 of 2020.

As for the three-peat, it’s not that uncommon. In the league’s 28 seasons:

RandyH accomplished the feat in 1997 and 1998, including three in a row Weeks 14-16 in 1997.
CraigS (1999 & 2011)
Dennis (2001)
David (2003)
TroyA (2004, 2009*, 2012* & 2018) including Weeks 13-15 in 2004
Jared (2005)
Mike (2006 & 2018)
CorkyJ (2008)
Michaela (2011)
CarlP (2017)
Jack (2019)
SteveB (2019)
*TroyA won four weeks in 2009 & 2012.
Only Mike (2006) and TroyA (2009/2018) won the league the year of their three-peats.
